La Maddalena is the island which gives its name to a small archipelago of seven islands, located off the north-eastern coast of Sardinia.  Close to the Costa Smeralda, they are just a 20 minute ferry crossing from the town and port of Palau.

 

Unique in fauna and flora, the islands are now protected and the entire area forms the National park of the archipelago of La Maddalena.  Crystal clear seas and sandy coves make this an excellent destination for snorkelers, or for those simply wanting to escape to an area of incredible beauty.  The archipelago is brimming with history: it is here where the young Napoleon fought (and lost) his first battle and where Horatio Nelson moored his fleet. Today, the historic military buildings and port of Caprera island have been transformed into a superb five-star hotel and luxury residence; La Maddalena Hotel & Yacht Club.  Located directly on the seafront, the hotel encompasses over 7,500 square metres; its modern, elegant design blending beautifully with the historic architecture.  The hotel has its own mall, hosting exclusive shops, bars and restaurants, where guests can dine and shop, or simply stroll in the evening along the large shady walkway which ends at the wharf.  Those arriving by sea will find superb port facilities, with 300 moorings for medium size and larger boats, plus all the services necessary for a nautical stopover.  The 112 rooms and suites are elegantly furnished, and all have private balcony or patio.  Deluxe and Prestige rooms also have sea views.

 

The Wellness Centre and Spa is inspired by the ancient Roman baths and covers over 3,500 square metres, totally given over to relaxation, wellness & beauty.  The spa provides a ‘hamam’ area with 25 treatment rooms, Turkish bath, thalassotherapy treatments, hydro-massage, and a fitness area, together with a bar and dietetic restaurant.
