We have teamed up with AVIS Rent-A-Car to offer you the highest quality car hire with exceptional inclusive and fully comprehensive rates.

One of the great pleasures of hiring a car in Italy is that it offers you the freedom and independence to explore the country at your own pace. Remote towns and villages suddenly become accessible, as do those delightful, isolated beaches. Even hiring a car for a few days, will greatly enhance your holiday enjoyment. Holidays which include transfers, can easily be substituted for car hire. We can arrange for you to collect the car at your arrival airport, and to return it at the end of your holiday. Full driving instructions to your accommodation are provided. For those who prefer to take things easy on arrival, we can book your transfers and arrange for the car to be delivered to your accommodation once you have settled in.

Conditions and information

Car hire included in self-catering holidays featured in this brochure is as follows:

2-3 persons: 1 Group A car

4-5 persons: 1 Group C car

NB. Infants are not included when calculating the number of occupants sharing a car. If travelling with infants, and/or for more comfort, it may be advisable to upgrade to a larger model.

Luggage racks are no longer available. If, therefore, you anticipate taking more luggage than is likely to fit in the boot of your chosen vehicle, please ensure you upgrade to a car with a suitably larger boot.

Vehicles are delivered with a full tank of petrol and should be returned that way. Prior to taking possession of the car, clients will be asked for a credit card imprint. Failure to return the car with a full tank will result in the cost of the petrol, plus a refill charge, being charged to the credit card or deducted from the deposit.

All vehicles are fitted with seat belts, as it is now compulsory for the driver and front-seat passenger to wear them. In addition, children aged 4 to 12 years must be seated in the back and wear seat belts. By law, infants up to 7 months require a baby seat, secured in the front passenger seat. Children aged 7 months to 4 years must be seated in a child seat, secured in the rear of the car. Booster seats for older children are not available in Italy.

Supplements for baby or child seat are payable locally. Drivers must be at least 23 years old and have held a full licence for at least 1 year. A full British licence is acceptable and there is no upper age limit provided you have a full UK licence.

Please note that it is a legal requirement whilst driving in Italy to carry your driving licence and passport, or a new photo-card driving licence.

When taking delivery, drivers will be asked to sign the car hire company's Condition of Hire, making the rental a direct contract between each driver and the car hire company.

Please Note: Drivers will be exempt from paying the excess in the case of damage or theft to the car, however, clients should drive within legal requirements and exercise due care and attention. Clients must make a formal report to the rental company of any accident involving a third party or damage to the car.

All vehicles have radio and air-conditioning. Models and makes are examples only and cannot be guaranteed. Cars are to be returned no later than one hour from collected time; failure to do so will incur an extra day's rental charge at local rates. The car rental company reserves the right to supply a higher group vehicle at no extra charge, if a car in the group you require is not available.

For those customers booking an inclusive package with us, we have negotiated an excellent, fully inclusive rate with Avis Rent A Car. There are no upgrades to consider on arrival. Simply present your voucher at the desk and drive your car away.
